On this day, the Sikh community celebrates both the arrival of Spring and more importantly the birth of Khalsa which was founded in 1699 by the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. This is when Sikhs unique identity was created and the five K’s, which represent values such as equality for all, standing up against injustice, and service to others.
Some Sikhs celebrate by going on a parade called Nagar Kirtan, meeting friends and family at a temple, which is called a Gurdwara. Traditionally, participants wear colourful clothing, sing, dance, chant hymns, and share food!
Vaisakhi has been a harvest festival in parts of India, celebrated by Hindus even long before it became important to Sikhs.
If you are in our Foulds Community and celebrate Vaisakhi - May Waheguru bless you with growth, health, and peace on this festival of harvest!
